A question for guys (and girls too)

Posted by scarlet_hue at 05:01 PM on July 20, 2009.

Be honest, okay? I just want your opinion on this. If you can draw an answer from a previous experience, it'd be much better. Experience is definitely > theory, but your unbiased opinion matters too.

The scenario is this:

You are a cool guy who's got good looks, a deep pocket, and a charming smile. You are a medical student and an athlete as well. Basically, you've got it going on for you. At school, you meet two nice girls who both likes you. You have the liberty to choose between the two, but you can only choose one.

To help you with choosing, may I present to you Exhibit A:

Girl 1:

An average-looking girl who's got brains. She's tall, plumper than most girls (but not fat), and a little bit of a tomboy with a great sense of humor. She's someone you can approach when you wanna have a decent conversation with somebody, and you can trust her to laugh with you even if your joke's cornier than a corn field. Overall, she's not exactly the coolest girl to hang out with, but a good companion nonetheless.

Girl 2:

A very pretty girl with a petite physique and a girly charm to die for. She's very lady-like (she hailed from an all-girls school somewhere near katipunan) and approachable. She's always quipped with a radiant smile and a friendly aura. If you're thinking she might be just another bimbo, think again. She may not be the most sharpest tool in the shed but she works hard to make up for it. She's probably the perfect girlfriend material.

We move now to Exhibit B:

Girl 1:

She likes you a lot and there's this smouldering chemistry between the two of you. She thinks you make her life more interesting.

Girl 2:

She thinks you're gorgeous and the two of you look great together.

Last is Exhibit C:

Girl 1:

Can be compared to Angel Locsin; An All-Filipina girl with a Morena complexion and a nice smile. Angel looks like someone who could be a classmate or a neighbor, right? I think there are women are prettier than her in terms of facial features but she got her goddess status through her pleasant and down-to-earth attitude. She's an overt reminder of how women can be beautiful when they're comfortable in their own skins.

Girl 2:

Can be somewhat similar to Anne Curtis but only in physical appearance... people say Anne can be such a bitch and Girl 2 is a very sweet girl. Girl 2 is a kikay with chinita eyes and plump red lips. Can be compared to a delicate flower that needs to be taken care of. If you put Kim Chiu's bubbly personality in Anne's body, you have Girl 2. Very delicious, hmm?

Now, with that all that said...

Who among the two would you choose?

Think carefully and try your best to put yourself in the shoes of the guy in the scenario.

Your answers will be very much appreciated.

Hey scarlet-hue!

I got your tag message and I suddenly hopped into your blog right away.

Another post I am so inspired to write something about. I sense a collaboration here. Before I get too excited filling up your page with my ideas, here's my thought about this.

If I will follow the scenario as it is without my own thoughts, principles, norms and whatsoever, I will definitely choose girl #1. From my own experience and view, girl #2 is just a waste of time, money and effort. Too sophisticated and adds a complication to my lifestyle.

But then I need to be in the guy's shoes that you are showing so choosing girl #2 is a no-brainer. I did experience getting attracted and falling for one till reality take a bite at my ass for me to wake up and realize that this kind of girl is not for me.

If I am the guy I will choose girl #2. We look good together. I got the looks, she has the same. I got deep pockets which mean I can spoil her and lessen her attitude being a bitch. I got a charming smile and she has this radiant one that will start my day in a good vibe. I got everything going so I got everything covered as well. I will definitely choose girl #2.

But like I said, I will personally choose girl #1 based on my own view and standards.

Wait for me to compose something about this. Ideas are overflowing somehow!

Nice post here. I love this!

P.S.
Parang scenario mo ata to ah =)

Thank you thank you thaaaaaank you! this is the answer i've been waiting for!

The reason why i placed the guy scenario there is that i somehow knew that a lot of people would automatically answer girl 1 without actually empathizing with the 'hero' in the situation. He's pretty much got everything right? Given the things and qualities he possesses, will he still choose the average-looking but fun girl? or will he go for the prettier one since he can pretty much get everything he wants? That's what i really wanted to know. I can see there are a lot of girl 1 types out there who are being left to collect dust in the corner just because they are not physically at par with FHM-standard girls some guys go gaga for. (No offense though) I feel the pain because i am, just as you observed, is a girl 1 type too, lol.

But that point aside, i really liked your opinion regarding this matter. I'm glad i asked you read this. The others gave some nice answers too but you and sookie gave the ones with the most insight. Good job guys! ^_^

Lol, thank you for liking this post. I will look forward to your own entry regarding this topic. I hope that in our own little way, more people would open their hearts to the real meaning of beauty other than what the media had been spoon-feeding us. Naks, pang beauty queen na sagot. :P

You are very much welcome. My post about your post will come soon. It's still in the drawing board. I really liked it and it brings out the "Eureka!" ala Archimedes expression in me as this is an eye opener.

No offense taken in your reply. You really got a point. Like the pervert blog you posted that I replied on. I gotta be honest as I was a sucker for this kind of system too. Again another major flaw in the human nature of us men. If they don't admit that they go drool over a ala FHM lady once they see one, then they are not man enough at all. For me, they are much worse than a flaunting BB Gandang Hari.

But good thing I didn't feel for such system as my girl is ala girl #1. And I am so swept off my feet, head over heels in love with her.

Don't worry your prince charming is just around. Maybe in a slumber of such hypocrital system we men are stuck on. =)

I...don't know how is it being a guy.

But I think for a steady relationship girl 1 would be better.

but then... guys usually like being smarter than girls don't they? I don't know. Just observing from my friends D:
Comment posted on July 22nd, 2009 at 10:22 PM
Lol! I can observe that in some guys i know too. They're kinda intimidated by the smart girls because i think, in my honest opinion, it hurts their pride to have a girl whooping their asses in the brains department :D. But, i don't know. I'm not a guy, so i could be very wrong, right? :)

Yeah. I guess so; we can never know what guys have in their heads >"<

I can't imagine myself being a guy.. But if they were men, I'd choose the first one cause you said the person's a good companion..

I dunno.. Won't it be fun if your girlfriend can bend into being your buddy? Down-to-earth is simply a big check mark.. Girl number 2 sounds high maintenance. I know someone like her..

Girl number 1.. Lovely but not gaudy like number 2..

Hmm. Okay, I will now try to imagine. If I were a guy, I want someone fun-loving, down-to-earth, and who can be my friend.. Girl 1 seems pretty versatile.. *Wow, long reply!*
Comment posted on July 21st, 2009 at 05:01 PM
Wow, i never thought of it that way. What if they were guys nga no?

I dunno... i'm still thinking between girl 1 and girl 2, because the girl i based girl 2 off is very lovely and down-to-earth too. I was thinking what chances does a girl 1 have against a girl 2 if a guy was forced to choose between them given that they are both fun to be with, versatile , kind and the only thing separating them is that girl 2 is socially accepted as the prettier one. Does that make a girl 2 type automatically win the battle?

Hehe, my reply is long too. :P

If I'm gonna look at the sociological (geek mode) aspect of this scenario then girl 2 will win as well since the guy got everything he got so why not get the best he can have based on the looks. If girl 2 is oh-so-high maintenance type of girl, I got my deep pockets to cover it.

It just makes sense to pick girl 2 if I am the guy in the scenario.

It's like Kobe Bryant choosing between a Nissan and a Lamborghini.

And with this comment combined with my other one. This is a very long comment! =)

A Nissan and a Lamborghini, lol! XD

like in choosing a product, if same price and quality then you go for the one that looks better. yikes, sorry for the comparison. 0_o
Comment posted on July 21st, 2009 at 08:08 PM
now that's really.. some flaw in decision making. i dunno a better term for it. it's something terribly annoying, losing because the other one looks better.

i guess there's higher probability that given the same sets of qualities, the prettier one will be chosen. after all, men generally have this affinity for what's pleasing to the eyes. men are very usually physical..
Comment posted on July 22nd, 2009 at 10:27 PM
Yes, it is terribly annoying indeed. D:<
But I guess it's not really a major flaw, since human nature dictates to us that we should aim for the better things to satisfy us. But, it's kinda unfair, don't you think?

Again, i like your way of thinking sookie. Keep 'em coming, dear. :D

And that is life, folks. Survival of the fittest kind of thing.. 0_o

@sookie and scarlet_hue: You got it right, survival of the fittest is the best word to describe this world. But isn't it that everyone wants what is best for them? Its like this psychology thing when you attain something you get to want more. Something like you attain something and you got this another part of your life you want to improve. Sorry I forgot my psych. =)

So if guy in the scenario is so gwapo with everything going on for him. He will surely get girl #2 to compliment his status in the society.

So I guess its more of like a socio, psychological thing for the guy to get girl #2.

What you think?
Comment posted on July 23rd, 2009 at 08:20 PM
Yep, that's what I had exactly on my mind. :)
Comment posted on July 23rd, 2009 at 09:01 PM
I'm thinking.. Maybe here's another factor.. Since it's survival of the fittest, biological make-up can be considered. It's like when you hold hands with someone, sometimes the "fit" doesn't feel right, sometimes it fits right. Too obscure? Hehe xD

For example in mating, a chihuahua will mate with a chihuahua because their biological make-up match. A chihuahua won't mate with a uhm, labrador. Hehehe.

So.. Yeah. It isn't always the gwapo/pretty factor.. Remember Tim? He's good looking, tall, and stuff but we aren't biologically made for each other.. Weird much? :D

So yeah, I guess that sort of adds up on the matching thing..

If anyone's interested in a better explanation, here's a link to an article, "Why Do We Choose Our Mates? Ask Charles Darwin"

parang nakikita ko sarili ko sa girl 1. joke! hmmm,. curious lang ako why did you come up with this? if i were i boy, girl one,. kaso in reality,. girl 2 palagi ang napipili,.asar! haha,. biglang bitter e,.
Comment posted on July 20th, 2009 at 10:51 PM
Yeeeees you are so correct! Boys would always say they like girls like girl 1 and yet they would end up with a girl 2 type. I am drawing this from experience, lol.

My curiousity just made me do this. Kasi honestly, i see a lot of interesting girl 1 types out there who are being ignored despite their good qualities for air-heads whose only skills are to apply tons of make up and take slutty photos. Sometimes it makes me think if it's the girls' fault or the guys'.. :P

anu nga ba yung sabi ni Oprah? the smarter the girl are, the more it is harder for her to get someone, parang ganun yung idea but I'm not sure if I use the right words. Just cant understand boys...haysss....
Comment posted on July 22nd, 2009 at 10:33 PM
Apir tayo dyan! And boys think we girls have this great plan about everything and all. What they don't know is that we're just as confused as they are. :)

Comment posted on July 20th, 2009 at 05:14 PM
if i were on that guy's shoes, i'd pick girl #1, simply because i can learn things i may not know yet and i think someone with great sense of humor are smart and knows how to carry a conversation.
Comment posted on July 20th, 2009 at 05:27 PM
I feel really happy with that answer. >:D

Thanks!
Comment posted on July 22nd, 2009 at 04:55 AM
it's no-brainer..girl #1. i prefer my girl with a sense of humor and a little bit plump *wink* seriously, it depends on what "game" the guy is playing (no offense here)..if he's into serious relationship then he might pursue the first one. then there are guys out there who are in the "exploring" stage. they will try different girls out there just to know which one the best..harsh but true
Comment posted on July 22nd, 2009 at 10:38 PM
Hmm.. i never thought of it that way. Nice!

But the other guys aside, what if you are the guy in the scenario? Will you still choose the girl #1? Remember, you are a cool guy. A cool and a privileged guy, so theoretically you've got no boundaries to mind in choosing between the two.... :D
Comment posted on July 23rd, 2009 at 12:42 AM
i'd go for girl # 1. interesting, funny and plump ;)
