A Manga to call my own! XD

Posted by scarlet_hue at 08:07 PM on June 4, 2007.

Actually, this isn't my first time to create my own manga. I've done it several times before but almost all of them ended up in the trash can. The ones left in my archives are those i couldn't finish because of plot holes i couldn't fill in. ~_~

But this time i want to actually finish this particular manga i've created through hours of daydreaming [during class hours! XD] and i really think this is going to be a good and (hopefully) touching story. I'm not really a great artist nor a good story writer but hey, actually putting a story into a paper is better than just dreaming about it, isn't it? ^_^;;

So, anyways..

I know producing a good manga cannot be done by a single person alone. So if you're willing and got enough patience for me (XD), your help is very much appreciated. Be it in the visual aspect or in the story's progress, feel free to drop me a line and gimme all the love (help, actually) you can give! ^_^

The tentative title of my manga is [The Glass Flower]

Story:
Mio is a 20 year-old graduating BS psychology student who's a bookworm and a bonafide member of the SSB club: the single since birth club. She has no inkling about what people her age call 'love'; her life only revolves on books, school, trophies, medals and achievement awards.

Driven to maintain her number one status in class, Mio sets out to do something out of the ordinary for her final project: A documentary of a patient who is suffering from amnesia. With this, she plans to stay on the top of her batch and end her student life with a bang.

With that goal in mind, she meets Raine, a handsome young man who apparently has no memory of his past. As they spend each day solving mysteries of Raine's past together, Mio realizes that she's falling deeper and deeper for him. But all is not well when she finds out that a woman called Diana has been haunting Raine's dream every night, leaving him fragments of his memories -- revealing bit by bit, a dark and painful past.

This is the start of Mio and Raine's journey in discovering what is it to love, to forgive, to accept one's own mistakes, and to live life in it's fullest.

...

I know... it's LAME! I'm not really the 'writer' type.. Sawreh. I even have a hard time just writing my own blog entries. >.<

So, moving on..

Here are the major characters:

Raine:
Raine

- 20-ish something guy. Quiet and reserved. Violent at times. Doesn't really like flowers, but there's just something in them that makes him drawn to them.
*If you'd look closely, you would see a mole near his left eye. And that thing just above his brow is a small scar. These would become important in the story later on.

Mio:
Mio

- 20 years old. Graduating BS psych stud. Driven with ambition. Intelligent yet clueless at the same time. Acts like a kid.

Diana:
Diana

- Mystery woman. Like Raine, around 20+ years old. Beautiful. Has a voice belonging to an angel, as described by Raine.

...

Hehe, these were drawn by me earlier today. I had nothing to do when suddenly, a pencil and scratch paper just magically appeared in front of me. You know what happened next. XD

I'm gonna draw them and the other minor/supporting characters in a more decent piece of paper next time. I'll even color them in Adobe photoshop! Oooh, i can see the fire burning in my eyes already. XD

Suggestions please. You won't go uncredited. Thanks. ^_~

PS: Just like Clone Army, i want to have a sort of a "company" name. What do you think about Scarlet Visuals? Any other suggestions? ^_^
so,>

Bang Bang

Posted by scarlet_hue at 02:14 PM on June 11, 2007.

One night, my RL/OL friend suddenly I'Med me. He asked me what i was doing at the moment and i replied that i was reading Monster by Urasawa Naoki. He then asked me what the story's all about but i just replied with a lazy 'go find out yourself' just to shoo him away. I was already irritated that time because i was interrupted just when i'm about to find out a vital revelation on Johan's identity. I had to reread the last three pages again so i could get back on track. Then he I'Med me again.

He: Hmm.. Monster's pretty interesting.
He: Let me read it. XD
Me: Hell no.
He: Nye? Bakit naman?
Me: It's out of your league.
He: You're mean. XO

Yes, i know it was a mean thing to say but i just had to say it. I'm a fan of manga that delves on the darkness of the human mind. I enjoy stories, fictitious or not, that taunts you with riddles and philosopical anecdotes that would make you doubt your own perspective about good and evil. And for that matter, i just cannot allow people like him to turn psychological thrillers like these into shoujo/shounen-ai goo. One mistake i could remember was when i introduced Death Note to him. Here i was thinking i could exchange plausible theories about Light's idea of 'justice': "is his murder of the so-called 'evil-doers' a crime or a divine retribution?", "Should he be convicted for killing them or be thanked instead?", "Is a utopia better than this chaotic world we're in right now?" I was ready for some friendly debate with those questions in mind but alas... what i got from him in response made me hate fanboys and fangirls for all eternity. All he was concerned about is Light's and Misa's love angle. Also L's and Light's.

Of course i was angry. I was angry that all i could get from him is just some stupid raving like "Light is hott but L is even hotter! XD" or "Misa-misa's the cutest!!! XD" or "Who do you think is cuter, Mello or Near?" Could he not see the greater, more important things that make [Death Note] nothing short of a masterpiece like the potrayal of one man's struggle to do good by using evil methods? Could he not see that what the author wants is for us to think if there is really good or evil in this world, or are they only defined as such based on how they benefit us? I understand that some love angles are included in the story but they are just, i think, for comic relief and not the whole point of the story. About the Kiyomi-Light angle, well, if you've reaaaally read DN then you'd know Light's only being a SOB and was just using her for his goals. If he (this friend of mine) only wanted some manga loving, there are a lot of shoujo mangas out there that would quench his thirst. I bet he only scanned the pages and stopped to read when there is a little bit of Light-Misa/L-Light involved. What's even worse is that he acts oh-so-intellectual just because he is reading/have read [Death Note], but ask him about the complicated bits in the story and he's a goner. Either he'd answer you with stuff he got from wikipedia or he'd just simply shrug his shoulders and say "i forgot".

So right now, i'm into [Monster]. It has the same theme as [Death Note] but even better. What i didn't really like about DN is the supernatural stuff, i.e. the Shinigamis. Here in [Monster] you don't get to encounter supernatural crap like that but it'll give you goosebumps DN never quite did. I swear, while i was reading [Monster] my heart kept beating like crazy and it actually hurt. [Monster]'s story is a depiction of pure terror in the guise of a beautiful creature and is simply a MUST read. By the end of the manga, i kept asking myself the question: What really is the meaning of "the end"?

[Death Note] in my honest opinion was and still is a fascinating novel, but he and all the other fanboys/fangirls like him ruined it for me. All those yaoi fanfics/fanarts spreading like wildfire disillusioned me. I mean, which self-respecting psycho-manga fan wouldn't be? That's why i swear, i will not repeat the same mistake with Urasawa's Monster again. I don't want any TenmaxJohan, NinaxJohan or any 'shipping for that matter to sprout like some contagious disease and destroy the beauty of this manga like with DN. Never again!

...Buuuut, i can't help but think that Tenma's teh sex... *Gets attacked with rabid, rake-wielding townspeople* Okay OKAY! I just admire Tenma, okay?! I ain't gonna go make some nude fanart of him! ..though that would be dreamy... Alright i'm just kidding!! XD
